DIRECTIONS
Although the International Rose Test Garden is truly the gem of Portland, finding it can sometimes seem like looking for hidden treasure.
For those who like to keep it simple, here is the short version:
Take SW Tichner off West Burnside, turn right on Kingston, turn left at the 2nd stop sign.
OR
Take the Zoo Exit from Hwy 26 and follow the signs to the Rose Gardens.

If DRIVING:
From Downtown Portland:
Go WEST on Burnside to Tichner (4th stoplight past NW 23rd)
Turn LEFT on Tichner
At the top of the hill, turn RIGHT on Kingston.
At the 2nd stop sign (at the end of the tennis courts) turn LEFT into our parking lot.
You can also park any where along the tennis courts – you’re only a block or so away.
OR:
Go WEST on Jefferson to SW 18th.
Turn RIGHT on SW 18th.
At 2nd stoplight, turn LEFT onto SW Salmon.
Go up the hill a few blocks.
The street jogs to the Right and then takes an immediate Left onto SW Park.
Continue straight up the hill on SW Park into the main entrance for Washington Park.
Follow the signs to wind up the hill to the Rose Garden, which will you lead you to the parking lot.
From East of Portland (Gresham, the Gorge, Portland International Airport):
Get on I-84 WEST-bound (towards Portland).
As you approach the junction with I-5, keep towards the left, and follow the signs to I-5 SOUTH (SALEM) Again move to the left, as soon as you can, and take EXITS for Hwy 26 WEST (BEAVERTON/ ZOO) Exit Hwy 26 at the ZOO exit.
Go past all the ZOO parking lots to the first actual street to the right, which is Kingston.
Turn RIGHT on Kingston. This will wind for 1.6 miles through the arboretum, and drop you down to a stop sign.
Go straight ahead into the Rose Garden parking lot.
From West of Portland (Beaverton, Hillsboro, the Oregon Coast):
Get on Hwy 26 EAST-bound. Exit Hwy 26 at the ZOO exit.
Go past all the ZOO parking lots to the first actual street to the right, which is Kingston.
Turn RIGHT on Kingston.
This will wind for 1.6 miles through the arboretum, and drop you down to a stop sign.
Go straight ahead into the Rose Garden parking lot.
From North of Portland (Seattle, Vancouver):
Get on I-5 SOUTH-bound. Take exit for I-405 SOUTH-bound.
Move to center lanes (the right ones peel off)
Take Hwy 26 WEST (BEAVERTON/ZOO) Exit Hwy 26 at the ZOO exit.
Go past all the ZOO parking lots to the first actual street to the right, which is Kingston.
Turn RIGHT on Kingston.
This will wind for 1.6 miles through the arboretum, and drop you down to a stop sign.
Go straight ahead into the Rose Garden parking lot.
From South of Portland (Tualatin, Lake Oswego, Salem):
Get on I-5 NORTH-bound.
Take exit for I-405 NORTH-bound.
Take Hwy 26 WEST (BEAVERTON/ZOO)
Exit Hwy 26 at the ZOO exit.
Go past all the ZOO parking lots to the first actual street to the right, which is Kingston.
Turn RIGHT on Kingston.
This will wind for 1.6 miles through the arboretum, and drop you down to a stop sign.
Go straight ahead into the Rose Garden parking lot.
If WALKING:
From Downtown Portland:
Walk WEST on SW Salmon. It will head uphill sharply at 18th. Keep going! Go up the hill a few blocks. The street jogs to the Right and then takes an immediate Left onto SW Park.
Continue straight up the hill on SW Park into the main entrance for Washington Park.
You can either go up the brick steps or take the road to the right, then follow the signs to wind up the hill to the Rose Garden.
The rock steps on your left will take you into the Rose Garden.
From NW 23rd Area: Walk SOUTH on NW 23rd, which turns into SW Vista when you cross Burnside. Go up Vista to the first stoplight, which is Park.
Turn RIGHT on Park.
Go up the hill on SW Park into the main entrance for Washington Park.
You can either go up the brick steps or take the road to the right, then follow the signs to wind up the hill to the Rose Garden.
The rock steps on your left will take you into the Rose Garden.
If taking PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
From Downtown Portland:
Ride the MAX train to the Washington Park Station.
Take Bus 63 to the Rose Garden.
Note: Bus 63 comes only once an hour (times vary – check schedule)
Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, there is a Washington Park Shuttle that comes every 15 minutes. Your MAX ticket will transfer to the bus.
OR:
Ride Bus 63 to the Rose Garden. Note: Bus 63 comes only once an hour (times vary – check schedule)
